Patrick has worked as a coach and mentor since 1990. A founding director of The Change Partnership, he then established his own practice in 1995. This has since expanded to become Board Coaching Ltd.

Patrick started his career as a lawyer in 3i (when it was called ICFC) becoming an account manager. Then he became the youngest manager worldwide in the Barclays group, as Manager i/c North West England for their merchant bank. He spent most of his banking career as a Vice President at Paribas , initially in Geneva . In 1977 , aged 32 , he was appointed head of commercial and private banking in the UK. Subsequently he became Managing Director in charge of Nigerian subsidiary then chief executive running the Caribbean affiliate. He was in charge of risk management across the international network when Paribas was the largest industrial and banking group in France and AAA rated . In his last role for them, which led to his coaching career, he led a team mentoring the board of a troubled bank, at the request of the Central Bank for a year.
